This magnificent event was presided by commissioner Attorney Secka at the main Janjanbureh Independent Electoral Commission IEC house. The occasion was characterized by drumming, singing and dancing of supporters of the candidates, around the Janjanbureh IEC house, all candidates were accompany by crown of supporters from their constituencies.
The United Democratic Party UDP party led by Hon. Lawyer Ousainou Darboe, the Minister for Foreign affairs, International relation and Gambians in Diaspora registered six 6 candidates in the Janjanbureh administrative area, these candidates includes Alfusainey Ceesay for Sami Constituency, Moro Ceesay for Janjanbureh Constituency, Alhagie Sillah for Niani Constituency, Sanna Jawara for Upper Fulladu Constituency, Bakary Darboe for LowerFulladu West Constituency and Sanna Ceesay for Niamina East Constituency.
On the other hand, The People Progressive Party PPP, this party was established by former Gambian freedom fighter and the first Gambian President Sir Dawda Kairaba Jawara but now led by Hon. Omar Jallow, the current Minister for Agriculture.
Five candidates vying for the parliamentarian election on April 6, under the PPP ticket in the Central River Region CRR, they includes Ebrima S. Jallow for Nianija Constituency, Barra Janneh for Upper Saloum Constituency, Muhammadou Tambura for Lower Fulladu West Constituency, Modou Gaye for Upper Fulladu West Constituency, and Malick Secka for Lower Saloum Constituency.
On another development, Ebrima LS Marena the Gambia Moral Congress GMC candidate for Niamina East was also nominated on Sunday, March 12, 2017.
Further more nine 9 candidates contested under the Independent ticket in Janjanbureh IEC house on Sunday, March 12, they includes Babucarr Cham for Nianija Constituency, Bakary Sowe for Sami Constituency, Biran Saine for Lower Saloum Constituency, Bakary Kora for Upper Fulladu West Constituency, Kebba Yero Manneh for Janjanbureh Constituency, Mbakeh Fatty for Niani Constituency, Ansumana Colley for Upper Fulladu West Constituency, Essa Saidykhan for Niamina Dankunku Constituency and Kebba Ansumana Menneh for Lower Saloum.
Biran Saine, an Independent candidate for Lower Saloum Constituency, said he contested under the Independent ticket because it is the only way he can wipe out his opponents.
He further pointing that when he is empower he will strive to unite the people of Lower Saloum, and bring meaningful developments to the door step of his constituency.
According him, his fear was whether he will succeed in the nomination adding despite the strong background of his rivals he is confident in winning the election. He finally appealed his supporters to maintain peace during campaign and election, noting that The Gambia is one nation and one people.
In conclusion all candidates vying for the parliamentarians seats for their constituencies promised to bring developments to door step of their people and urged their supporters to keep themselves away from violence during campaign.
Speaking to Moro Ceesay, The United Democratic Party UDP candidate for Janjanbureh Constituency in an interview shortly after his nomination, he stated that he was born and broad up in Janjanbureh, adding him never being interested in politics but he was requested by the people of his constituency due to his work in the town over the years.
He said, he he does not expect to be dominated by any candidate but when it happens, he will accept it with good faith, because Janjanbureh is one family," i believe all my opponents will do the same, so that the campaign will be peaceful, election will past and we will come together as one family," he said.
He pointing that, he does not fear any candidates and he does not expect any candidate to defeat him in Janjanbureh, because the strength of the UDP party is to expectation in the Island.
According to Ceesay, he discussed with the people of Janjanbureh on certain things which they want him to put in place within the next five years, adding that he is praying to God to achieve the targets when he wins.
He finally said, for the electorates to nominate more than one person, can happen to any candidate, he noting that he is 100% sure all the electorate who nominated him gave out their cards willingly.
“I am aware that some of my opponents just seat in their rooms and prepared their nomination list and i also told the returning officer, some of my rivals used death people registration cards to fill the nomination list, but he told me he will verify and i hope everything will be lawful," he revealed.
On his part, Ebrima s. Jallow, The PPP candidate for Nianija Constituency, pointing that his people expect a lots from him, because Nianija had being back warded for the last years, pointing that as he is the right person to wipe out the challenges affecting their wellbeing, he is ready to help them.
Jallow further said the political party matters a lot in this competition, but the personality of the candidate count a lot, saying he knew the characters of his opponent and on background he can challenge any of his rivals.
In conclusion Jallow stressed his first top priorities, pointing uniting the people of Nianija could be his target, adding he want to make sure poor roads condition.
The candidates after their nomination at Janjanbureh IEC house, all candidates expressed their satisfaction on the nomination process presided over by Commissioner Antoney Secka, but only Moro Ceesay, the UDP candidate for Janjanbureh complained of his rivals using death people registration cards for filling the nomination list.
