Wutang Kung Fu Club of Banjulnding Saturday held its annual graduation ceremony. 36 students graduated this year in different categories. The event was attended by officials of the Gambia Kung Fu Federation and family members of the graduates.
Shaolin Kung Fu originated and developed in the Shaolin temple in Henan province, China during its 1500-year. It is one of the oldest, largest, and most famous styles of Wushu or Kung Fu in the world. It combines Buddhism as a religion and martial arts as self-defense techniques.
It is widely regarded as the best Self-Discipline that helps young people learn how to deal with frustration and work toward a specific goal. It also relieves stress as well as ease tension, strengthen the body and help blood circulation.
In the Gambia, the Kung Fu Federation is the umbrella body responsible for the coordination of the Kung Fu discipline and setting standards for personnel representing The Gambia in regional and continental Championships.
As part of its ongoing effort to transform the discipline in the country, Wutan Kunfu club of Banjulnding on Saturday held the annual graduation ceremony in which 36 students graduated in different categories. The event was attended by a cross section of the community, and personnel of the Gambia Kung Fu Federation.
The Shaolin Wu Tang Kung Fu Club of Banjulnding was formed 12 years ago by one Master Abdou Aziz Ceesay who studied the art in Senegal. After the successful formation of the club, it was later handed over to his successor Jarga Faal who was his best student at the time.
The club has a membership of over 86 young people from the age of 6 to 35 from different backgrounds. According to officials of the club, their aim is to shape the behavior of young people in the society.
Students who underwent rigorous training and passed the examination were awarded certificates and promoted from white, Yellow, Blue, Orange, and Red belts. Children aged 6 years also showcased their talents in various animal styles during the different demonstration sessions.
The President of the Kung Fu Federation said his federation is highly constrained. He however, said the Banjulnding Kung Fu club is one of few clubs in the country who are thriving despite the challenges they are face with.
For his part the PRO of the Gambia Kung Fu Federation Ebou Sanyang said the lack of support from government continues to hinder the country’s participation at international championships.
