The aspiring NAM for Old Yundum Constituency Abdoulahi Mendy held a press conference at the Kairaba Beach Hotel today Wednesday 1 March, 2017 to enlighten the media on his desire goals to the forth coming election.
Abdoulahi explained that his symbol is a touch light which symbolized the path to transparency and accountability. He will be among the NAMs who will advocate for Women, youths and children have the basic right to go to school, and benefit from accessible and affordable healthcare services, so I will do my best if elected to be among NAMs who will add voices to laws, conventions and declarations that will promote, safeguard and protect children, women, Gender base violence etc.
The young politician mentioned that he will advocate for to teaching of the constitution to be included in the school curricular systems especially from Junior Secondary School onwards. This will help enhance citizens’ knowledge on the dictates of the law.
He will join with other NAMs to advocate for the introduction of Local Languages as a medium of communication in the Assembly during sittings to enable those who cannot speak English understand the discussions or bills to be passed so as to safeguard their interest.
Abdoulahi vowed that, he will create an office in his constituency to enable the communities he represent to come up with their village proposals through their various Village Development Committees, setting up interim committees from all the 14 villages within my purview by listening to them and relaying their complains to the assembly for smooth and effective representation.
He said that his constituency faces numerous constraints especially during the raining season due to poor road network putting materials, children, and women at risk because of the difficulties encountered from Tabokoto to Old Yundum by paying double fares.
Mr. Mendy called on other Villagers in the constituency like Jabang, Mariama Kunda, Labakoreh, Youna, and Sareh Pateh did not benefit from electricity, water and accessible roads with hospitals. Old Yundum, Sinchu Sorrie, Sinchu Alhagie, Wellingara, Kunkujang Keitaya, and Nema Kunku, though had some basic needs but requires additional privileges that will enable development.
Mendy promised that, the coastal road market will undergo complete overhaul in order to meet required hygiene standards to ensure proper sanitation as the toilets are not accessible, not enough running water, lack of enough securities, and abundant waste disposal.
He criticized other politicians for failing to represent at the national assembly who after securing the position will only serve party or individual interest. In the past, national assembly members have succeeded in lobbying for projects meant for their various constituencies. will make sure whatever development and benefit that is meant for the constituency will be well distributed.
Abdoulahi echoed the significant of empowering villages through discussions with competent individuals, companies or institutions on development issues/projects that will help the communities on issues relating to development and sustainability.
He promised to lobby for a district wrestling arena which will provide a platform for our youngsters who have interest in the sport to harness their potentials while Students/schools within the 14 villages under his purview will benefit from Inter- School competitions in various areas and important prices will be given to the deserving schools and organized football matches in collaboration with the district sports committee.
Mr. Mendy emphasize talked on the lack of transparency over the years that witnessed public officials embezzling state resources that have never been accounted for. In the worst case, some of them embark on misplace priority scam projects. Leaving the constituencies they represent vulnerable, he noted.
