Cluster 8 of the Regional Education Directorate 5 has converged at Laminkoto Badala Lower Basic School for teacher’s professional development on March 9, 2017.
This event was attended by teachers within the Jarumeh Koto cluster [Cluster eight 8] and other educationists, aiming to develop teachers professionally in order to attain the quality education development goal.
Speaking to the occasion, Morro Dampha, the headmaster of Laminkoto Badala LBS, made the opening remarked; he stated that, the significance of this magnificent convergence cannot be over emphasis, saying it is an instrumental mechanism measure to capacity building on factors affecting the well-being of the teaching and learning process.
He further outlined the importance of this valuable program, pointing the meeting will help teachers to improve on professional skills in order to put the children in a better position to understand their lessons precisely.
Mr. Dampha finally advice the participant to make the best use of the convergence, urging them to disseminate the information to their fellows teachers at the school level.
On his part, Dawda Kujabi, expressed his impression to the teachers for contributing on the development of The Gambia Teachers Union Cooperation Credit Union GTUCCU, pointing that teachers are now save as long as the new government is concern, adding that during the political impass GTUCCU was the first government institution to appealed the former President to step down.
He further underscored the importance of this financial institution, saying the financial institution is stable, its modalities is save and encouraging," teachers who does not save in this institution may encounter difficulties after their retirement," he pointed out.
Mr. Kujabi further underlined the functions of the financial institution, pointing is to unite and save a complete organization of all the teachers in the nation regardless to qualification, religion or nationality, to bring cooperation and promote mutual understanding among teachers and to encourage teachers to exercise their full rights and responsibilities of citizenship.
On his contributions, Alhagie Secka, the monitor of Jarumbeh Cluster [cluster 8] highlighted the aims and objective of this gathering; saying is to find a possible solution of the elements hindering the developments of the teaching process.
He said this convergence is a mechanism measure of building teachers capacity, in order to assist them to deliver well in class, adding the primary aim of the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education MBOSE is to get the output, on the children at the school level, in order for them to be responsible citizens in the future.
According to him this annual occasion has contributed immensely on development of the children on the school ground, because it help them to improve in reading, writing and calculating skills, he said anytime this event is done, he goes to the school to monitor to know the output," if this program was not having impact on the pupils, we would have stop it," he added.
On stressing the challenges teachers facing, the educational expert said some teachers lacks a better accommodation especially, the teachers at the remote areas, adding some teaching materials are lacking but the MOBSE is working very hard to address this constrains.
In conclusion, Mr. Secka called on Organization and Philanthropist to joined Action Aids the Gambia and UNICEF on supporting the educational department, so as to help on the advancement of teaching and learning process.

Camara, the principal of Janjanbureh Upper Basic School, pointing that with the advent of School Improvement Grand SIG, the Ministry decided to train teachers on financial management in order to be able to manage funds according to financial principle of The Gambia government and the Ministry of Basic and Secondary Education MOBSE.
He adding that the Upper Basic and Senior Secondary Schools usually have some little funds from student’s school fees and that money should be manages according to government and MOBSE financial principles act.
He noting that with the advent of SIG that has to more pronouns, because the population is now paying at the school as SIG, automatically the head teacher should manage those funds effectively.
According to him, if the School financial management prepare School Improvement Plan SIP, this will be scrutinized and approve by the Regional Education Directorate office, then the plan is given to the headmaster, and when the School Improvement grand SIG is paid in to your account, you therefore spend it according to the allocation of the priorities area receipt to represent before auditors and prepare your asset register.
Mr. Camara pointing that this is to make transparency and show accountability, noting this helps the headmaster to be account by the school financial management committee, the educational directorate and MOBSE without any difficulty.

He noted that, the skills acquire by teachers will surely impact on the children, because any talent obtained by teacher will be deliver to a student, adding that teacher will now understand better on school financial management compare to the previous years.
