Participants during a meeting adopting Omar Jallow, Alias O.J as Father by Nema Jula Kunda Coalition Association, political emancipation for change spoke well against tribal politics and called for united force towards national development.
Nema Jula Kunda Coalition comprising at least 200 members on Monday, 27 February 2017 adopted Omar Jallow, alias O.J – Minister of Agriculture as their Father, done at a ceremony held at his family house in Pipeline in the Kanifing Municipality.
The delegation headed by some of their executive members said during a meeting held said their association was set up to campaign for a change of Government in The Gambia, leading to the victory of the Coalition headed by Adama Barrow in the 1 December 2016 Presidential Polls against the ousted President Yahya Jammeh. Mr Jammeh who earlier on accepted defeat, later on rejected the results, but was pressurized to leave the country and currently living in exile in Equatorial Guinea.
Speaking during the meeting Lady Chair, her assistant and men mobiliser- Madam Fatoumatta Jaiteh, Bintou Manjang and Kalilu Kanteh respectively explained that their association was set up for purpose of nation building, and appealed for assistance through relevant projects to enable them participate more effective and meaningfully in national development activities. They said their group comprises various tribes and therefore gives no chance to, and says no to tribalism, and condemns tribal politics.
They explain that they looked around and have Hon. Jallow as their choice, and decide to rally behind him. “We aspired for change of Government, leading to the establishment of the association. We seek to create employment for the youth, to enable them contribute meaningfully to national development. Our association comprises various tribes and therefore we say no to tribalism,” said Mrs. Manjang in her remarks.
Agricultural Minister in his remarks expressed gratitude for the regards vested on him by the group, and assured them of his offices’ support.
He said God said Heaven is under the foots of a mother, which requires people to respect and value women; adding: “O.J is today because of the Women,” whom he said contributed were key to his political successes, especially during his parliamentary contests in Serrekunda in the PPP Regime.
He spoke against the elements of tribalism in Gambian politics, pointing out that if it was only tribalism he would not have won elections in Serrekunda East. He said what is important is for people to have good habits, and not about which tribe one belongs to.
He expressed disappointment with Lawyer Ousainou Darboe’s plans to contest Parliamentary elections under UDP, instead of the Coalition. He described such intends as efforts to undermine Adama Barrow’s led Coalition Government.
He said he will go against anyone who wants to contest against the Coalition being UDP or PPP supporters. He urged politicians to work towards national development and avoid selfish politics.
Jallow also called on Gambians to forgive each other and work together towards achieving common objectives. “If it is about weeping, everybody will be weep, not just the Julas, noting that it was Gambians that allowed Yahya Jammeh to use them to brutalized their fellow countrymen.
Uthman Jeng, a Freelance Photographer described Agricultural Minister- Jallow as Gambia’s real Action-man who always stands for the needs of the people.
“I know O.J for over 30 Years now, but only for being a good man,” he said, adding that the association makes no mistake in choosing O.J as Father.
Illiassa Jatta, PPP/Coalition member said the initiative taken by Nema Jula Kunda Coalition manifest that we are all one. “We should know that O.J is a Politician and therefore should be ready to rally behind him and support the Coalition.
Amie Njie – Treasurer in giving the vote of thanks commended Mr Jallow for the warm welcome and assured him that they are ready to always rally behind him whenever he needs their participation in political development activities.
