The Gambia Red Cross Society on Thursday received 5 Ambulances and 8 utility Vehicles from the International Federation of the Red Cross and Red crescent to enhance its operational capacity.
The 13 new vehicles come at a time when the country’s humanitarian institution has been seriously challenged in terms mobility, which is highly needed for its emergency operations and response to the Covid-19.
The President of The Gambia Red Cross Society, Jato Sillah, says the donation is highly welcomed. We thank all the volunteers for their efforts and we hope nobody will discourage you in what you are doing because Allah will pay you as you are doing it for the sake of humanity, for your society, you are also doing it for your country.
Alvina Brauhauser, Head of the G-PLUS Emergency Response Services, under the Gambia Red Cross Society, , explains that her unit is committed to helping the Gambia fulfill its emergency needs. The G-Plus Emergency Services Call Centre has been working with the Ministry of Health to ensure safe delivery of all cases to appropriate facilities.
With our aim to continuously deliver quality services to all patients, capacity building on case management and infection control trainings were done. All our patients receive excellent medical care regardless of age, race, ethnicity and religious beliefs.
Alasan Senghore, Secretary General of the Gambia Red Cross Society, praises his institution’s governing board, which he describes as the motivational tool behind the institution’s management, thereby resulting in high levels of commitment and dedication.
The Red Cross is more prepared as we want to sustain the activities that we have being doing as we do it successfully so we do not want to relent. We are urging all Gambians to continue to support the Red Cross both those within the country and in the diaspora as they have been very much supportive and also the government.
