Recently, 37 civilians, including 13 children were killed by the terrorist attacks, threatening the Niger's safety and peace. In the midst of these social difficulties, the first HWPL peace education training in Niger gathered teachers who aspire for peace.
27 teachers from 27 schools in Niger are participating at the 6 weeks training which started on August 13, hosted by the international peace NGO HWPL.
The goals of HWPL Peace Education are to enable students to perceive the right value of peace and to cultivate pioneers in spreading a culture of peace.
The peace textbook contains basic principles and contents that will empower people to achieve peace, such as 'the dignity of life', 'loyalty', and 'coexistence and sustainability'.
After the training, the peace educators will play an integral role in providing students equal opportunities for learning and building the foundation for the development of peace education in Niger.
HWPL provides peace education to youth who are exposed to ethnic, racial and religious conflicts and threats around the world. A total of 2,023 educators in 31 countries have been trained as peace educators. Sustainable peace education curriculums are implemented in countries such as India and Philippines.
