The African Union Commission and the Gambian Ministry of Youths and Sports yesterday Friday 5th November, 2021 concluded a five days training on Election Observations in The Gambia.
40 youth from across the country on Friday completed a five-day training course in election observation, organised by the ministry of youth and sports, supported by the African Union Commission. More in this story.
As the Gambia prepares to enter an election cycle, preparations and training for election observation is important for accountability and transparency, especially for the youths who make up over half of the country’s population.
Robert Gerenge Principal adviser to Election Management Representing the AU Commission, expressed delight to the Gambia government for the partnership to train Gambians on election observation as the country heads to the polls in December.
According to Robert Gerenge, the Gambia is the first country to host such a gathering and therefore hopeful that the knowledge gained by the participants will help improve standards in the upcoming December 2021 Election.
He stressed the need for such trainings to enable youths partake and understands the effect of Election and the need for a Peaceful one while urging participants to make good use of the training
Sanaba Jawla who spoke on behalf of the participants said the knowledge gained in the training will be implemented appropriately. He thanked the Ministry of Youth and ports and the AU Commission for such laudable initiatives
In his Address to the participants, Bakary Badjie Minister of Youth and Sports, said Gambian youths are keenly interested in politics and the government will ensure peace prevails in the upcoming elections. He recognize the efforts of the government in creating an enable environment for youths to not only participate in decision making but join the Political arena.
Badjie calls on youths to exercise maximum level of statesmanship and dedication towards peace as it is a collective approach.
