As the rainy season begins ACTIONAID international, The Gambia in partnership with the eu donates farming implements to young people and women in CRR.
The rainy season has started and it’s often an exciting period for farmers, especially if they have the necessary materials to have a successful farming season. The donated farming implements by the ActionAid are Shine hoe, Seeder, Seeds and a Donkey for field farmers and thirty thousand Dalasis for poultry farmers.
The Executive Director of the ActionAid International Gambia office Omar Badjie, says this project will go a long way towards solving the problem of irregular migration amongst young people as with the required implements these young people can stay home and farm.
Projects are hardly sustainable in Africa and Gambia is no exception. We engaged the Executive Director of ActionAid on how best they are working to ensure this project’s sustainability.
The Governor of CRR Sheriff Abba Sanyang attended the event and called on the youth and women beneficiaries to take ownership of the project by making sure it is sustainable, which will be determined by their performance.
Kawsu Touray one of the beneficiaries of the project, has been given D 30,000 to start his own poultry farm. He calls on his follow beneficiaries to take care of the donated implements and those given donkeys to vaccinate them as required. Whenever we are given these kinds of support, we should take good care of the farm implements.
ActionAid is an international non-governmental organization whose stated primary aim is to work against poverty and injustice worldwide. ActionAid is a federation of 45 country offices that work with communities, often via local partner organisations, on a range of development issues.
