Kumba Gaye a Gambian lady suffered from Brain Tumor had received significant donation and contribution towards her overseas operation from the Gambia teachers Union and Associations within The Gambia.
Since news broke out that Ms. Kumba Gaye in a dare health situation that needs an urgent treatment, campaigns were launch across the country to raise funds for the young teacher who recently got visually impaired to foot her medical bills. One campaign out of the lot is that of the young teachers of the country.
Through determined efforts and show of solidarity to a colleague in the profession, teachers of the country have galvanized financial resource to support Kumba’s oversea treatment. The support is one that is premised on the solidarity forever being preached in the teacher family. Within a two week campaign coordinated by the Young Teachers Platform and on behalf of Teachers in the Gambia a total sum of ONE HUNDRED and THIRTEEN THOUSAND ONE HUNDRED and SEVENTY-EIGHT DALASIS (D113, 178.00) was raised. This is from teachers and well-wishers in the education sector and across all regions.
A breakdown of this sum indicates a total contribution of: REGION 1: D42, 164.00, REGION 2: D20, 354.50, REGION 3: D8060.00, REGION 4: D4200.00, REGION 5: D24,785.00, and REGION 6 D13,615.00 respectively.
This sum plus a cheque for Fifty Thousand Dalasi (D50, 000) from the Gambia Teachers’ Union (GTU) has been presented to the family of Kumba Gaye by officials of the GTU and its organs- Young Teachers Platform and the Ladies Society.
"On behalf of the Interim Committee of the GTUYTP, we would want to thank and appreciate the solidarity efforts of teachers towards meeting Kumba’s medical bill. We extend regards, prayers and appreciation from Kumba’s family to the entire teachers of the country. The sum raised wouldn’t have been possible without your dedication, determination and sacrifice. It is also a show that we are a family as what affects one affects all",The GTUYTP stated.
Miss. Kumba left the country on Sunday 6th December, 2020 to Turkey for her medical treatment.
