As part of their cooperate social responsibilities in The Gambia, The Gambia National Library brikama Branch was successfully refurbished and handed over by a Turkish Base Floating power plant Karpowership Thursday 19th December, 2019.
The overal estimates for the refurbishment according to official worth over D500, 000 and was awarded to a Gambian constriction firm. It could be recalled In December 2018, Karpowership signed a contract with National Water and Electricity Company (NAWEC) to deploy a Powership of 35 MW for a period of 2 years in which the ship docked in banjul called Karadeniz Powership Koray Bey has been in operation in Banjul since May 2018. Karpowership has been supplying 80% of Gambia's total electricity needs.
In his address, Yankuba Mamburay, Project Manager of Karpowership Gambia said floating power plant is poised to contribute immensely to the socio economic development of The Gambia through fullfiling its cooperate national responsibilities as enshrined in the Agreement. He said, the project is a part of the give back initiative and that Karpowership will continue to offer support to institutions.
He highlighted the motive behind spending such huge amount in the refurbishment of the Library (D500, 000) to help Gambia students to access information easily and comfortability because Education is the backbone of any country.
Mamburay noted that, Karpowership have been involved in many cooperate social responsibility activities, including the rehabilitation of the new-born baby unit of the children’s wing at Edward Francis Small Teaching Hospital and Supporting the first lady’s foundation, amongst others.
Speaking earlier, Matilda Johnson, Director General of the Gambia National library, expressed satisfaction for the extension and renovation of the library, adding that the library can now accommodate many readers.
She expressed appreciation to all those whose contribution towards uplifting the standards of the Gambia National Library in this 2019.
Representing the Governor of West Coast Region, Mr. Omar Fatty expressed gratitude to Karpowership saying, the intervention is timely and such gesture will improve academic performance of students and the public
Lamin Fatajo Regional Education Director expressed delight to Karpowership for complementing government’s efforts towards education and development.
