President Adama Barrow this morning presided over the swearing-in of two new judges to the High Court of The Gambia.
The new Judges, Judge Alexander Osei Tutu and Judge Francis Apangabuno, are in the country as part of technical assistance from the Republic of Ghana.
With a wealth of experience in International Law and Oil and Gas respectively, both judges brought with them 15 years of expertise to the Gambian Bar, ready to significantly contribute to the judicial sector.
President Barrow in his statement at the ceremony said his government has set out a clear policy path to ensure that our judicial system regains its pride, and the appointment of new judges will contribute to the judicial sector by addressing the backlog of cases piled up over a period of two decades.
‘’This development is part of the process to reinforce professionalism and rebuild our judicial system, which has suffered years of interference and disruption’’ He stated.
Chief Justice Hassan Aboubacarr Jallow said the President's interest in reinforcing the capacity of the judiciary is proof of his respect for the rule of law and judicial independence, adding these are important pillars of peace and stability for any country.
