The Newly Elected President of REFELA Africa, Rohey Malick Lowe. accompanied by Executive members of REFELA National Chapter on Thursday 2nd June, 2022 , visited The president of the Gambia at statehouse in Banjul.
The aimed of the visit was to show her appreciation to the President for his personal support, which greatly contributed to her winning the Presidency.
Her ascension to the presidency of the 130-million member continental organization, has been hailed by Gambians across the political divide as a victory for Gambian women.
However, all this may have proven too difficult to achieve if not for the support of the Gambian people, especially president Barrow, who along with his cabinet ministers, led by foreign affairs minister, Momodou Tangara, spearheaded the campaign for her election.
In a show of appreciation, the newly elected president of Refela in Africa, Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, pays a courtesy call on President Barrow.
Isatou Njie, Coordinator of Refela National Chapter, thanked the Gambian leader for his support to Gambian women. Refela, she says, is here to empower women.
Refela Africa President, Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe, expressed gratitude to President Barrow for his personal support to her presidential bid. Adding that her election victory should inspire young women and girls in the Gambia. And she gave an assurance of her unwavering commitment to live up to expectations. Meanwhile, she asks the president's support for the creation of a good quality, well-functioning Refela office for Gambian women.
For his part, President Barrow, congratulated Mayor Rohey Malick Lowe on her election victory. Adding that government and the people of the Gambia, are proud of Mayor Lowe's achievement.

Other speakers included the ministers of foreign affairs, Momodou Tangara, and Fatou Kinteh, Minister for women, gender, children, and social welfare, who all congratulated Mayor Lowe and assured of their continuous support. Before her ascension to the Refela presidency, Mayor Lowe, who is also the vice chairperson of the global parliament of Mayors, was previously elected vice president of Refela in West Africa.
