HALIMATOU JALLOW, A SIX-YEAR-OLD GIRL IS IN URGENT NEED OF OVERSEAS TREATMENT. THE YOUNG GIRL IS CURRENTLY BATTLING WITH A SWOLLEN NECK AND LIPS AS A RESULT OF HER CONDITION.
Having sought medical help here in the Gambia and in Senegal, her helpless family is now seeking help to take her overseas for treatment.
Despite her current predicament, a life shrouded in seemingly endless pain and frustration, young Halimatou says all she wants is to go back to school. She had lived the life of a normal, healthy child until early last year when she started complaining of pain around her neck. Within weeks, it began to swell uncontrollably and since then the family has visited all major hospitals in the country, in a bid to help her regain her health.
Following several scans and appointments, they were referred to Senegal for further examination and possible treatment. With dreams of a treatment appearing far-fetched in Senegal, coupled with serious financial constraints, the family returned home.
And her mom Ousainatou Jallow tells QTV, they are helpless, adding that “all we have now is God”. “We are appealing for help. We have done all we could and have gone to all the major hospitals. Our only hope now is overseas treatment and we do not have the money to facilitate for her treatment overseas. This started last year Ramadan but the neck wasn’t swollen, but as time goes by her condition started worsening. She is really going through so much pain”.
Rashida Jeng, also a family member, made an emotional appeal for support from the public. “We are appealing for help. She is in serious pain. She complains of pain in her leg, her head, all over her body. She keeps talking about going back to school, it’s all she wants, and this makes us all emotional because we are helpless. So, I’m appealing to anyone who could help to please come to our aid”.
Young Halimatou is visibly in serious pain. Her family says she hardly sleeps and struggles to eat and could barely sit for five minutes. She says she missed playing with her friends and badly wants to go back to school.
