THE TRUTH RECONCILIATION AND REPARATIONS COMMISSIONS ON FRIDAY HANDED OVER SEVEN AIR TICKETS TO VICTIMS AND THEIR ESCORTS FOR OVERSEAS TREATMENT IN TURKEY.
The treatment is sponsored by the Turkish government and two other institutions provided the air tickets.
The Four victims are Yusupha Mbye, Abdou Karim Jammeh, Nogoi Njie and Oumie Jagne and three people who will be escorting them.
The package is among many expected overseas treatments to be facilitated by the TRRC’s victims support unit and reparations committee to help those in need of urgent medical support.
The board chair of the victims support centre Baba Hydara, thanked the Turkish ambassador for the timely intervention.
The vice chairperson of the TRRC Madame Adelaide Sosseh, thanked the donors and the Turkish embassy. She also used the opportunity to call on other companies and institutions to support the victims, particularly those in need of urgent medical treatment.
The Turkish ambassador to the Gambia, His Excellency Ismail Sefa Yuceer, said he met with the victims and their families three years ago, and promised to support them, adding that Turkey is ready to support 25 people annually, who need medical treatment.
The Executive Secretary of the TRRC Mr. Baba Galleh Jallow, said the commission will be providing logistics arrangements for the travelling team, including monthly allowances, among others.
Yusupha Mbye, one of the beneficiaries express his delight, saying he expects a better treatment this time compared to the three he had previously.
