Special session with Essa Bokarr Sy Today we will diagnose the following theme or topic: What is intellectual in us - What is decent in our Culture - What should remain the mercury in faith as our compass - What should be the filter of feelings in our Social discourse is unfortunately being hijacked by the polluted psyche of a society whose genuine intentions in 2016 is at a cross road.
Therefore if not guided by rationality will be diverted by blinded desires. We are allowing ourselves to be on the wrong path. The right path should be that one towards cohesion, security, ultimately live in an era free of turbulence and instability.
We cannot deny the fact that as we speak our society is facing toxic adjectives, verbs and structures that are derived from rather crude and unfiltered socio linguistics.
Our society must replace emotions with rationality, ignorance with awareness, innuendos and whirling accusations being traded through ethnocentric feelings, religious intolerance and misinformation within political debates or discussions, with facts and honesty. Where difference in political opinion is expected to beautify democracy, anything contrary to that derives its meaning from dark the clouds of tensions or outright difference pegged on hard feelings. Latter is indeed a keg powder setting us for failure. Let's refuse that!
Gambia cannot afford social tensions therefore any one or any lot that is engaged in what is of bad taste socially, culturally, legally and politically must be contained within the framework of decency to begin with. Further down the line where some "elements" become unruly, they must face the full force of the law regardless of their political, ethnic, cultural or religious identity. We must entertain the idea of being Gambians first in our minds before anything else comes into play.
A nation and its people must always respect one arbiter. That arbiter is the scales of justice. Which must be partnered with responsibility guided by firmness in leadership, impartiality in justice and security. Risk analysis cannot be absent in responsibility at this stage. Where the risks rise above the benefits, justice and security must be respected forthwith.
We as Gambians must collectively work so hard to safeguard this small nation thus shield it against any internal or external security threats. Under no circumstances should security be compromised.
